Former Fine Arts Chairperson Charged With Stealing "Hello Dolly!" Proceeds

Former Barrington High School Fine Arts Department Chairwoman Julie Salk was arrested on theft charges Tuesday.

Barrington Police charged Salk with one count of theft over $500. Police say she stole $5,022 in theater and raffle ticket revenue from a Hello Dolly! production in March 2012. In the 2010-2011 school year, the Illinois State Board of Education reported Salk's salary as $142,024.27.

Teen Charged in Stabbing of Niles North Student

A 17-year-old Mather High School student has been charged with the stabbing of a Niles North student, police said today. The teen was charged with one count of aggravated battery.

The minor is alleged to have stabbed a Niles North student at Emerson Park on Nov. 9. That student was sent to two different hospitals to treat a lacerated liver, or stab wound to the mid-section, police said.

Officers responded to Emerson Park, 9530 Lawler Ave., regarding a report of a large group of people fighting. According to police reports, students from Niles West, Niles North and Mather High School were present.

Evanston

Pizza Delivery Robberies Investigated

Police say they have a lead on a suspect in one of three separate incidents where robbers stole cash and pizzas from delivery drivers in Evanston during the past two weeks.

Two men demanded a driver’s money, then stole his cash and a large pizza in the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue on Nov. 4, according to police. On Monday, Nov. 12, two men wearing masks and all black clothing displayed a handgun, then from a J.B. Alberto’s delivery driver in the 700 block of Dodge Avenue. And on Tuesday, Nov. 13, three masked men threatened a Sarpino’s delivery driver in the 800 block of Case Street, saying they had a gun and a knife, then stole his cash, wallet, cell phone, keys, and the two pepperoni pizzas he was carrying. All three incidents happened after dark. 

“They’re generally easier targets because they deliver at night, they have cash on them, they do have phones,” said Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott.

Northbrook

Wilson Lawn and Landscape Garage Burns

No one was hurt in a large Wednesday fire at Wilson Lawn and Landscape, 2500 Pfingsten Road.

The Northbrook fire department responded to the call at 5:18 p.m. and it took about an hour to put the fire, according to Northbrook Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Richards.

Richards said the source of the fire remains under investigation.

Island Lake

Sheriff: Man Swapped Sexually Explicit Photos With Juvenile

A three-month-long investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office led to the arrest of a 43-year-old Island Lake man.

Douglas J. Carlson, 4413 Beech St. Apt. #108, was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 14, and charged with one count of possessing harmful material (a Class 4 Felony) and one count intimidation (a Class 3 Felony), Sheriff Keith Nygren said in a press release.

In August, detectives began investigating an incident where a juvenile had been contacted by an unknown individual via a social networking site. Carlson had contacted the juvenile numerous times and sent explicit photographs to the juvenile on the internet, dectectives learned during the investigation, Nygren said. Carlson also was able to obtain explicit photographs from the juvenile.

Woodstock

Sheriff: Gang Members Face Drug Charges

Two gang members and a gang associate were arrested in an undercover narcotics investigation into drug sales throughout McHenry County that resulted in the seizure of $15,000 worth of cocaine, the sheriff’s office said.

Jovani Lucio, 22, of 203 Gross St., Mundelein, is charged with unlawful criminal calculated drug conspiracy, a Class X, two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, two counts possession of a controlled substance, deputies said. His bond was set at $120,000.

Abel Aguilar, 21, of 305 University St., Harvard,  and Rafael Aguilar Jr. 25, of the same address, are each charged with unlawful criminal calculated drug conspiracy, a Class X felony, unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class X felony and unlawful possession of a controlled substance,  according to reports. Each man’s bond was set at $100,000.
