Police: Two Area Teens Arrested Following Chase in Stolen Car

Nicholas C. Svoboda of Cary and Adam Pittner of Crystal Lake were both taken into custody in Lake in the Hills Sunday evening.

Two area teens are in custody after leading area police on a chase in a stolen car Sunday, police said Monday.

Adam W. Pittner, 19, of 1181 Amberwood in Crystal Lake, and Nicholas C. Svoboda, 18, of 7 Hickory Lane in Cary, face several charges in conjunction with the incident, which was first reported Sunday afternoon and lead to their arrest hours later in Lake in the Hills.

The Algonquin Police Department initially attempted to pull over them over near Algonquin and Frank roads Sunday after checking the license plate on their car and learning the 2011 Chevy Impala had been stolen, said Sgt. Ted Ziarkowski of the Lake in the Hills Police Department.

Police were unable to pull them over and the two eventually abadoned the car, he said.

"They ditched the car and bailed out and they actually got out of the car clean and no one saw them," Ziarkowski said.

Following that, police received 911 reports from residents who saw two people going through their backyards. Then about an hour later, they were seen fleeing on foot again.

The two were eventually arrested at 5:25 p.m. in the 200 block of Warwick Drive in Lake in the Hills, Ziarkowski said.

The Northwest Herald reports an earlier chase took place on Thursday. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office told the Northwest Herald the chase entered a residential area and ended because of safety reasons.

Following that incident and before Sunday's chase, the teens used the car to drive to Chicago, the Wisconsin Dells and St. Louis, according to the Northwest Herald.

A follow-up investigation revealed the Chevy Impala they were driving had been stolen from unincorporated Cary on March 28. The keys for the Impala were taken from another vehicle and "used to steal the car," according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release.

Svoboda faces charges for misuse of credit card, nine counts of theft, burglary and resisting arrest. A $34,000 bond was set and he is next expected in court on April 4 at 9 a.m.

Pittner faces charges for two counts of aggravated fleeing, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, resisting and traffic offenses. A $40,000 bond was set for Pittner and he is next expected in court on April 4 at 9 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation and additional charges are pending, according to the news release. The Algonquin and Lake in the Hills police departments assisted the McHenry County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
