Police: LITH Teen Punches Driver, Arrested for Assault

A 19-year-old Lake in the Hills man faces charges for punching the driver of a vehicle after that 18-year-old driver allegedly “flipped him off,” Lake in the Hills police Sgt. Ted Ziarkowski said Monday.

Mohammad M. Awwad, 19, 112 Pheasant Trail, was taken into custody Thursday at his home in connection with the alleged assault, which occurred at the intersection of South Oakleaf Road and West Algonquin Road at 7:19 p.m. Wednesday, Ziarkowski said.

Awwad was charged with disorderly conduct, aggravated assault and mob action, Ziarkowski said.

What Happened?

Awwad was traveling in a vehicle heading west on Algonquin Road. That vehicle turned abruptly onto Oakleaf Road without signaling, Ziarkowski said.

An 18-year-old Algonquin teen stopped in a vehicle on Oakleaf Road, waiting to turn onto Algonquin, made a derogatory hand gesture to the vehicle Awwad was allegedly in, police told Patch.

Shortly after, the vehicle Awwad was in pulled into the , 2126 W. Algonquin Road. Awwad and another man in his vehicle got out of the vehicle and approached the vehicle stopped at Algonquin and Oakleaf.

When the 18-year-old driver of that vehicle rolled down his window, Awwad is accused of punching him in the face, Ziarkowski said.

The 18-year-old drove away, and his vehicle was kicked and punched, Ziarkowski said.

The 18-year-old received a black eye from the assault.  

Police Look for Other Suspect

 continues to investigate the assault and look for the other suspect allegedly involved in the attack.
