Murder-Suicide Remains Under Investigation; Police Release Name of Victim

Carpentersville police have identified the victim in a murder-suicide that occurred Friday night in Carpentersville.

Nicole S. Brown, 38, was shot twice and killed by Anthony Rodriguez, 39, in the 0 to 100 block of Pueblo Drive — just blocks from her home at 49 Alameda Drive in Carpentersville, said Commander Tim Bosshart of the Carpentersville Police Department. Rodriguez has a last known address of Tecusmeh Trail in Lake in the Hills. 

Police were called to the scene at 9:39 p.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance and a man with a gun. 

Shortly after finding Brown, police received a report that the man who shot her was in the 1500 block of Amarillo Drive. Police responded at 10 p.m. and found Rodriguez walking out of a home.

“He came out a front door and had a handgun in his hand. He immediately put the gun to his chin and pulled the trigger,” Bosshart said. 

Rodriguez was taken to Sherman Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brown and Rodriguez had been in a relationship that recently ended. Several recent status updates on Rodriguez’s Facebook page indicated he was very upset over the break-up.

On June 21, the day before the murder-suicide, Rodriguez posted: “It's been five days, and I still don't feel any better. I haven't left the house except for medical and legal appointments and don't really have any interest in doing so. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll have a heart attack or something.”

He wrote a similar status update on June 20: “I tried my best, but I guess it just wasn't good enough. If it was, she'd be here with me. I hate the broken feeling I have inside and the hopelessness that relentlessly pulls at me making me want to just give up.”

Both Rodriguez and Brown were 1991 graduates of Dundee-Crown High School, according to their Facebook pages. Rodriguez attended Northern Illinois University.

The Kane County Coroner conducted autopsies Monday on both Brown and Rodriguez and police have not yet received those results, Bosshart said. 

Meanwhile, few more details were available as investigators continue to sort out what lead to the murder-suicide.  

“Because it’s a murder-suicide, and since we are pretty confident that it’s a domestic situation, there is no suspect to chase,” Bosshart said. 

Because of that, Bossart said investigators are taking their time in sorting out the details. He said family members of Rodriguez and Brown are going to have a lot of questions and police are hoping a thorough investigation will give them some answers.

“We won’t ever be able to explain exactly why it happened, but we can try and give them as much information as we can,” Bosshart said.
