Police: LITH Standoff Wednesday Ends Peacefully

A standoff Wednesday afternoon ended peacefully after police said they were able to negotiate with a teen who was suicidal and coax him unharmed out of his home.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department was called to 111 Deerpath Road at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday where they learned the teen had barricaded himself on the first floor of the home and was threatening to harm himself, according to a LITH Police Department press release. 

Area residents were alerted to the situation through Nixle and the McHenry County Reverse 911 System, according to the news release. 

The teen eventually surrendered to officers. Charges are pending, according to police. 

The Lake in the Hills Police Department was by assisted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team, the Algonquin Police Department, the Marengo Police K-9 Unit and the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department.
