One of McHenry County's 'Top Ten Fugitives' Arrested in Florida

Cecil T. Barnes, 31, now of Florida, was wanted by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office for more than one year.



A man posted on McHenry County’s Top Most Wanted list for more than one year was arrested early Monday morning in Florida.

Cecil T. Barnes, 31, formerly of the 4700 block of Old Oaks Dr. in Lisle., was wanted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office on a narcotics warrant for unlawful possession and delivery of a controlled substance.

Barnes also was wanted on warrant through McHenry County for failure to appear in court for traffic violations and a felony arrest warrant through Carpentersville Police Department for manufacture/ delivery of cocaine in close proximity to a school, according to McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.

The Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 17, 2012, obtained the arrest warrant for Barnes and a fugitive investigation began. Investigators received information Barnes had fled the area, and they were unable to locate him after the warrant was issued, Nygren said in a news release.

Barnes was then placed on the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Top Ten Mosted Wanted list, posted on the Sheriff department’s website. He was listed as "armed and dangerous."

At about 6 a.m. on Monday, July 15, the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force, acting on a collateral lead from the Sheriff’s Office Apprehension Unit and the U.S. Marshal Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, captured Barnes at his residence in the 200 block of Pelican Place in Destin, Fla., the release stated.

Barnes was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Okaloosa County Jail for booking and processing procedures. His bond for the McHenry County warrants was set at $75,000, and at $300,00 for the Kane County warrant, Nygren stated in the release.

Barnes is waiting for judge to set his next court date.
