LITH Teen Remains Hospitalized Following Crash

Hospital officials report that Kenneth Horney's condition has been upgraded from critical to good following last weekend's two-car accident.

The Lake in the Hills teen injured in a two-car accident on May 20 while driving a replica Ford Model T has been upgraded to good condition.

Kenneth Horney, 19, was originally listed in critical condition following the crash that occurred around 9:48 p.m. near Algonquin and Lakewood roads. Horney’s condition on Friday was upgraded to “good,” said Michelle Howe, marketing specialist for Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department filed a traffic charge against the driver of the second car involved in the accident. Brittany Foster, 19, of Huntley, is charged with failure to yield at a stoplight while turning left, said Sgt. Eric Decker of the Lake in the Hills Police Department.

At the time of the accident, Foster was transported to Woodstock Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police said she did not have any life-threatening injuries. She was treated and released from the hospital.

Two passengers in Horney’s car, Cody Ortiz, of McHenry, and Brandon Thennisch, of Algonquin, both 17 years old, were also transported from the accident scene to Sherman Hospital where they were treated. They, too, have since been released, Howe said.

According to police, Foster was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt westbound on Algonquin Road and was stopped at the Lakewood Road intersection. Horney’s Ford Shay, a replica of a 1920s Ford Model T, was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road. For unknown reasons, Foster turned left in front of Horney’s car, police said.

Horney and his passenger, Ortiz, were both ejected from the vehicle, and firefighters had to extricate Thennisch from the wreck.
