LITH Teen Dies in Accident

Emily Weyers, 18, was struck by a car in the area of Algonquin Road west of Oakleaf Road Monday night.

An 18-year-old Lake in the Hills woman died Monday night after being hit by a car in the area of Algonquin Road west of Oakleaf Road, according to the Lake in the Hills Police Department. 

Emily Weyers, 18, sustained serious injuries following the crash and was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin where she was pronounced dead, according to the LITH Police Department press release. 


The accident happened at 9:49 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found a gold 2011 Dodge Intrepid driven by Christian Nunez, 18, of Carpentersville, located in the east bound lane of Algonquin Road west of Oakleaf Road.

The car had extensive driver’s side damage. Nunez was treated by officers on the scene and then transferred to the care of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department, according to the news release.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Lake in the Hills Police Department, according to LITH Police. 

UPDATE: According to a Northern Illinois University press release, Weyers was the recipient of an academic scholarship. However, she planned to attend DePaul University this fall and intended to study political science with a LGBTQ (lesbian, gay men, bisexual, transgendered and questions) minor. 

Emily wanted to be a lawyer for the LGBTQ cause, according to a family member.
