LITH Teen Charged In Weekend Police Chase

A 19-year-old Lake in the Hills man was charged Monday after leading police on a chase through the village during the early morning hours of Saturday.

Brett M. Seiler also is accused of drunken driving, criminal trespass to a vehicle, driving without headlights, failing to yield for several traffic signals and speeding in excess of 40 mph over the limit on Crystal Lake Road in LITH, said Sgt. Terri Vollmer.

The chase started near Acorn and Village Creek roads about 1:46 a.m. Saturday when a LITH police officer saw a vehicle driving without headlights and tried to pull it over, Vollmer said.

The vehicle did not pull over and led police on a chase before the car eventually ran into a pole near Algonquin and Square Barn roads in Algonquin, Vollmer said.

“He then took off on foot and was later apprehended at his residence,” Vollmer said.

Seiler, 270 Terramere Lane, told police he borrowed the vehicle from a friend, but that friend told police he had not given Seiler permission to use the vehicle, Vollmer said.

Seiler Arrested, Several Charges Filed

Seiler was arrested on several charges related to the chase and was taken to McHenry County Jail.

Seiler was charged Monday in McHenry County Court with aggravated fleeing from a police officer at 21 mph or over, speeding 40 or more miles over the speed limit, driving under the influence of alcohol and criminal trespass to a vehicle.

He also was cited with traffic charges, including three counts of disregarding an official traffic-control device, five counts of driving 11-14 mph over the speed limit, failure to yield right of way/emergency vehicle, driving/never issued license, summary suspension/refusal and head/tail/sidelight violations.
