Libertyville Woman Reported Missing

Police and fire officials searched Independence Grove Monday night but found nothing, according to Anne's husband, Michael.

Update, 12:35 p.m.: Gurnee Police Cmdr. William Meyer reported Tuesday that the search for missing Libertyville resident Anne Stroll is "an active, ongoing situation."

Meyer said searches were performed Monday night and Tuesday morning but nothing was found.

"We've got nothing new," said Meyer. "It's very unusual."

Meyer said "some witnesses did see (Anne) on her bike, leaving the neighborhood. That's all we've got."

Anne is described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall, 120 pounds, with blond, shoulder-length hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a red bandanna and riding a blue Trek Navigator bicycle.

Original story: A Libertyville woman has been reported missing.

Michael Stroll said that his wife, Anne Stroll, 64, went missing Dec. 2 while on a bike ride. Michael said his wife went on her ride at 1 p.m.

"She usually rides around the neighborhood and is back within a half hour," said Michael.

He wasn't home when his wife left, but he found a note stating that she was going out on her bike ride. The note indicated that she had "decided to take a short bike ride" before taking the couple's dog to a dog park at Fairfield and Route 176.

"When 2:15 came around and she wasn't home, I became concerned and started calling her," said Michael. "When I couldn't reach her, I got in my car and went over the streets that are her normal bike ride. When she wasn't there, I came back and called 911 immediately."

Verizon, he said, was able to ping Anne's phone, indicating that the phone was likely on the south side of Independence Grove on one of the trails within 200 yards of Route 137.

Michael said Gurnee police and fire officials, along with Lake County Forest Preserves rangers and bloodhounds, searched Independence Grove Monday night. A helicopter with infrared was also involved in the search.

"There was nothing. We couldn't find Anne, we couldn't find the phone and we couldn't find the bike," said Michael.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gurnee Det. John Metcalf at (847) 599-7000.
