UPDATE: LITH Man, 22, Killed in Hit and Run; Funeral Services Set

Anthony Pauls, 22, of Lake in the Hills, a Crystal Lake South graduate, was killed Friday night in a hit and run accident.

Visitation and funeral arrangements have been made for Anthony Pauls, the 22-year-old Lake in the Hills man who died Saturday from injuries sustained after a hit-and-run accident in Urbana, where he was a student.

Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Willow Funeral Home, 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., Algonquin.

Visitation continues at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, from the funeral home to St. Mary Church, 10307 Dundee Rd., Huntley. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., according to Willow Funeral Home.

Entombment will be at All Saints Mausoleum, according to the Willow Funeral Home.

Pauls, a 2009 graduate of Crystal Lake South High School, died early Saturday, Oct. 13, after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver at about 11:50 p.m. Friday at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, according to an Urbana Police Department press release. Pauls was senior at U of I.

Pauls was walking in the 200 block of W. University Avenue near the Lake Street intersection in Urbana when a car struck him, causing severe injuries. Only hours after he was hit by the car, Pauls was pronounced dead at 7:54 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, police said.

The car fled the scene, but a Urbana Police Department sergeant located a vehicle nearby with heavy damage, according to Urbana Police Sgt. Andy Hawkin.

Police arrested Albert Fleming, 20, of Champaign, and leveled preliminary charges of one count of driving under the influence of alcohol, one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death and other traffic charges against him, Hawkin said in the press release.

Pauls played football and baseball at Crystal Lake South High School.
