Former LITH Man Attempts Suicide Following Verdict in Sex Assault Case

A jury ruled Wednesday that Robert W. Lucht, formerly of Lake in the Hills, was guilty of sexually assaulting a girl.

UPDATE: A former Lake in the Hills man tried to kill himself after a jury convicted him Wednesday in a sex assault case, according to the Northwest Herald. 

The Northwest Herald reports Robert W. Lucht, 56, emptied the contents of an envelope made out of notebook paper that contained a "granule-like substance" into his mouth and was taken out of the courtroom on stretcher after the apparent attempted suicide, according to the NW Herald. 

The attempted suicide came after a jury found Lucht guilty on three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to a McHenry County State's Attorney's Office press release.

Lucht was convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl. The girl, according to the press release, was admitted to a hospital when she was 11 years old for having suicidal intentions and for harming herself. 

The girl then reported she had been sexually assaulted by Lucht multiple times when she was between the age of 9 and 11 years old, according to the news release.

Lucht will be sentenced on Nov. 20 at 1:30 p.m. and faces a minimum of 21 years in prison.

The jury is expected to get the case today for a former 56-year-old Lake in the Hills man who is accused of sexually assaulting a girl, according to the Northwest Herald. 

Robert W. Lucht, 56, is charged with three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and could face a minimum of 21 years in prison if convicted all charges, according to the Northwest Herald.
