Village Board OKs Guardrail on Hilltop

There have been seven single-car accidents on Hilltop Drive south of Bernyce Street in the past five years.

The approved a request last week to spend up to $5,000 to install a new guardrail along Hilltop Drive south of Bernyce Street.

Public Works Director Fred Mullard told village trustees during an Oct. 13 meeting that there have been seven single-car accidents in the past five years on this part of Hilltop Drive.

A Lake in the Hills resident requested the village’s Traffic Calming Committee review the situation. After investigation, the committee recommended installation of the guardrail on the east side of Hilltop Drive to protect residents from cars leaving the roadway, according to public works reports.

“We had one car run off the road, and the last one hit a utility pole,” Mullard told trustees on Thursday.

Mullard said his department can cover the expenditure with savings on other budgetary items. The village had budgeted $8,000 for planting fall trees, but those trees were supplied to Lake in the Hills as part of the Rakow Road widening project, Mullard said.
