Golf Cart Crash Leaves Area Man in Critical Condition

The McHenry County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the accident, which happened early Sunday.

A Wonder Lake man was critically injured in a golf cart accident that occurred early Sunday. 

The accident happened near the intersection of Pleasure Avenue and Evergreen Drive in unincorporated Wonder Lake around 1 a.m., according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Department press release. 

A preliminary investigation into the crash found the driver of a 1987 Golfmobile EZ-GO golf cart, Bradlee D. McDow, 27, of Wonder Lake, was traveling east on Evergreen Drive when he turned north on Pleasure Avenue and drove the golf cart off the road before steering back onto the road, according to the release.

At that time, the front seat passenger in the golf cart, James D. Clem of Wonder Lake, fell out. Sheriff's department officials are unclear why McDow veered off the roadway.

Emergency personnel and police officials responded to the scene around 1 a.m. Sunday. Flight for Life was called and transported Clem to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was listed in critical condition.

McDown and two other passengers in the golf cart, Kathryn A. Lingl, 30, of Jackson, Wis., and Kristina A. Chovanec, 25, of Wonder Lake were not injured.

The Golfmobile did not have seat belts, according to the press release. The McHenry County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the golf cart accident.
