Fireworks Cause Fourth of July Garage Fire

Following the blaze, Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District is encouraging residents not light of fireworks themselves.

One area fire department is encouraging area residents to leave fireworks to the professionals following a garage fire last night in Algonquin.

An initial investigation by the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District revealed fireworks being lit off of construction materials caused the blaze at 9716 Arthur Road in Algonquin about 10:31 p.m. Monday.

The blaze was reported to the fire department by a neighbor who noticed flames coming from a detached garage, according to an Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District press release.

By the time firefighters arrived, neighbors had put out most of the fire with garden hoses. Firefighters used a foam and water mixture to make sure the smoldering pile of construction materials was completely extinguished, according to the news release.

No one was injured in the fire and damage totals for the blaze is not yet available.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received assistance from Carpentersville and Fox River Grove fire departments during the Monday night blaze.
