Crystal Lake Spa Owner Arrested Again for Prostitution

Crystal Lake spa owner Shufang Lu was arrested again Tuesday, Nov. 19, and charged with prostitution and illegal operating a massage therapy business. She charged with the same crimes on Oct. 28.

The owner of the Spring Spa in unincorporated Crystal Lake has been arrested a second time for prostitution and unlawful practice of massage therapy.

Shufang Lu, 49, of 218 W. 19th St., Chicago, was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 19, following a second undercover investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Lu was arrested Oct. 28, and charged with the same offenses following the first undercover investigation.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Lu was operating the Spring Spa in the 5600 block of Route 31 without a massage license. Neighbors noticed unusual activity - such as men parking across the street and running over to the building - and reported it to police.

After recently receiving more complaints, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office conducted a second undercover operation at Spring Spa.

During this second operation, investigators documented that Lu and a second woman, Jing Hua, 50, with an unknown address, did not have a license to practice massage therapy. Hua was arrested Nov. 19, too, and charged with unlawful practice of massage therapy.

The two women were taken into custody and transported to the McHenry County Correctional Facility in Woodstock.

Lu, who was also charged Tuesday with violation of bail bond relating to her first arrest, is awaiting a bond sentence and a court date.

Bond for Hua was set at $1,500 and she is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 20.
