McHenry County police announced today the seizure of more than 700 grams of suspected methamphetamine on Feb. 2 in Algonquin, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

A McHenry County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit observed a suspicious vehicle driving near the area of County Line and Randall Roads, the release stated. The K-9 Unit followed the vehicle into a shopping center parking lot, and two unidentified men quickly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Attempts to locate the men were unsuccessful.

A K-9 search of the vehicle’s exterior positively alerted to the presence of a controlled substance. Sheriff’s investigators impounded the vehicle and during an inventory of the vehicle’s contents, uncovered a bag containing the suspected Methamphetamine. Sheriff Nygren estimates the street value of the seized drugs to be approximately $25,000.
