Convicted Burglar Arrested for Recent Area Crimes

McHenry Sheriff's officers continue to investigate rural burglaries.

A 46-year-old Belvidere man, who served a three-year prison sentence at Statesville Correctional Center for burglaries in Lake in the Hills and Huntley, is suspected of repeating the criminal activities that landed him in jail.

Douglas J. Boehning, 46, of Belvidere, was arrested on March 23  in Ogle County after a three-month investigation into burglaries occurring in McHenry, DeKalb and Ogle counties, according to a release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. Tools and other items of value were removed from rural residences.

Ogle County officers arrested Boehning immediately after he committed a burglary in the early morning hours and he was charged with eight counts  of burglary, according to the press release. Items from a burglary on Pleasant Valley Road in unincorporated Woodstock were also recovered, said Lieutenant Jim Popovits of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Boehning is suspected of being involved in other burglaries in the area. The investigation is ongoing and other charges and arrests may occur.

Boehning is being held at the Ogle County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
