Body of Missing Swimmer Located in Fox River

The body of a missing swimmer was recovered by rescuers in the Fox River near Angelina Place in Carpentersville at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The body of a swimmer who was reported missing Sunday in the Fox River in Carpentersville has been located, police said. 

The man, whose identity is not being released at this time, was reported missing shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday.

His body was recovered by rescuers in the Fox River near Angelina Place in Carpentersville at 5 p.m. Sunday, according to a Carpentersville Police Department press release. 

The man was in the area Sunday for a day of fishing and recreation with two friends when the man, along with one of the friends, decided to swim across the river.

The friend, a stronger swimmer, told police he quickly became exhausted in the heavy current and looked back to find his friend in distress, according to the news release. 

The stronger swimmer was able to make it to a nearby island where he was later rescued. The friend was last seen in the water south of Angelina Place.

Several rescuers were called to the area Sunday to assist in the search for the drowning victim.

Foul play was not suspected. The Carpentersville Police Department and Kane County Coroner's Office is continuing to investigate the death.
