Apartment Blaze Forces Residents to Evacuate

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District determined the fire was caused by overcooked food burning in the stove of a third-story unit at 325 Tecumseh Trail in Lake in the Hills.

No one was seriously injured in a apartment fire early Saturday at 325 Tecumseh Trail in Lake in the Hills. 

responded to the mulit-residential apartment building at 2:44 a.m. after dispatch was notified that the apartment's fire alarm system was going off, according to a news release. 

All residents were able to safely evacuate the building, according to the press release.

Following an initial investigation into the blaze, firefighters determined the the cause of the fire to be from overcooked food that was burning in the stove of a third-story unit. 

The apartment was inspected and many residents were allowed back into their units. A damage amount from the blaze is not yet available but is expected to be significant.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received assistance from Carpentersville, Crystal Lake, Marengo, Wauconda and Huntley fire departments during the early morning blaze.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District reminds residents that smoke detectors are needed on every floor of your home and need to be tested monthly, according to the press release.
