Algonquin Woman Killed, Three Hurt in One-Vehicle Accident

Megan E. Hartigan, 20, died as a result of the crash west of Huntley late Tuesday. Two men and a girl were injured in the accident.

A 20-year-old Algonquin woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash west of Huntley on Tuesday night. 

Two other men — both of whom were in critical condition Wednesday — and one girl were injured in the same crash that occurred at 10:45 p.m. in the 14600 block of Marengo Road in Coral Township, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release. 

Megan E. Hartigan was ejected from the 2004 Hyundai in which the four were traveling. She was taken to Centegra in Woodstock, where she later was pronounced dead, according to the news release.

The three other occupants of the vehicle also were ejected from the car after it went off the roadway while westbound on Marengo Road. The vehicle then entered a ditch north of the roadway, hit a culvert and rolled over, according to the news release. 

Jonathan J. Lombard, 21, of Huntley, was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin after the accident. Lombard was in critical condition Wednesday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Ryan W. Hanks, 18, of Huntley, was taken to Provena Saint Joseph's Medical Center in Elgin. The Daily Herald reports Hanks was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon. 

The name of a fourth occupant in the car, a juvenile girl, was not released by the McHenry County Sheriff's office Wednesday afternoon. That girl was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin for treatment of her injuries. 

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is not sure who was driving the car at the time of the crash and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call the sheriff's office at 815-338-2144. 

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office Traffic Crash Investigation Unit also is looking into "elements that may have contributed to the crash," according to the news release.

Earlier this year, a 19-year-old Huntley woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash that occurred in the 17500 block of Marengo Road — not far from the location of Tuesday's crash.

 was ejected from the 1995 Jeep Cherokee in which she was a passenger. The Jeep was westbound on Marengo Road about 8:06 p.m. Feb. 23 before it went off the roadway, into the ditch and rolled over.

Three other men were injured in that crash, including the driver, Zachary C. Richardson, 22, of Union. Richardson was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Woodstock Memorial Hospital. in stable condition, according to a Feb. 23 Patch article. 

Another passenger, John W. Sheehan, 23, of Huntley, was transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was treated for his injuries and released.

Passenger Steven D. Manninen, 21, of Union, refused medical treatment. 

No one in the Jeep was wearing seat belts, and airbags did not deploy.
