Algonquin Woman Injured in Car Accident, Airlifted to Hospital

Afternoon accident on McHenry Avenue near Dartmoor Drive in Crystal Lake diverted traffic for more than one hour.

 

A young Algonquin woman was airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge following a single-car accident in Crystal Lake on Monday afternoon.

Heather Burris, 22, of Algonquin, suffered injuries in the crash that were not life-threatening, but required immediate medical attention, according to a press release issued by Commander Dan Dziewior.

A REACT helicopter from Rockford was called in, and Burris was flown to the Park Ridge hospital for treatment and further evaluation.

Police said Burris was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty southbound on McHenry Avenue, just north of Dartmoor Drive and when her car left the road on the west side of the parkway, and struck a mailbox and its support post.

The Jeep then traveled completely off the road, and rolled onto its roof. Burris was able to exit the car on her own, police said. Emergency crews from the CLPD and responded to the accident at about 4:36 p.m.

Traffic was diverted from the area for more than one hour, and manual traffic control was provided as emergency workers assisted Burris, removed the car and its debris and secured an appropriate landing zone for the helicopter, Dziewior said.
