Algonquin Teens, Police Partner to Keep Alcohol Out of Teens' Reach

"Project Sticker Shock" is a local effort intended to keep alcohol out of the hands of those under 21 years of age.

On April 15, the Illinois Liquor Control Commission, Jacobs Safety Initiative, McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, Algonquin Police Department, McHenry County Underage Drinking Task Force and Lake in the Hills Police Department collaborated on a new effort called “Project Sticker Shock.”

The program is a local effort intended to keep alcohol out of the hands of those under 21 years of age.

The Jacobs Safety Initiative is a group of high school youth who will be accompanied by adult chaperones to various liquor license establishments.

The youth will present liquor license holders with a variety of stickers and decals in fluorescent orange and black to provide a very strong reminder to all shoppers: Providing Alcohol to Minors is Illegal, Unhealthy & Unacceptable!

These stickers will be found on alcohol packages, bags, countertops, and glass refrigerator doors at liquor establishments who join the movement to cause adults to think twice before making it any easier for youth to access alcohol.
