The public is invited to provide feedback about the Algonquin Police Department as part of its accreditation process.
Police Chief Russell B. Laine announced that a team from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP), provided by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, will arrive Nov. 28, 2012, to examine all aspects of the Algonquin Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services, as the department seeks accreditation.
As part of the on-site assessment, members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team by telephone. The public may call (847) 658-2756 on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 pm.
Telephone comments at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes each and must address the agency’s ability to comply with the ILEAP standards. Copies of the standards are available at the Algonquin Police Department, 2200 Harnish Drive, Algonquin IL 60102.
Those individuals who are unable to make telephone comments at the designated time may contact the Assessment Team Leader, Chief Donald M. Thomas at the Sycamore Police Department at (815) 895-3435.
There will be two assessors assigned to Algonquin’s assessment team. The first is the Team Leader, Chief Donald M. Thomas of the Sycamore Police Department and the second is Lieutenant Joseph Mitchell of the Orland Park Police Department.
“Policies and procedures are an essential part of any law enforcement organization," Laine stated in a press release. "It is the guidance from these instruments, combined with our agency’s desire to be held to the highest standard, that allows us to protect our community, while delivering professional services to those we serve."
"The ILEAP process has helped us insure we have the necessary policies in place to effectively realize our department’s goals and objectives," Laine stated. "ILEAP has also improved our oversight, as well as our ability to verify compliance. We welcome the assessment team’s professional feedback, as we strive to enhance the level of service that we provide to our community.”
