Algonquin Police Department Promotes Long-Time Officer to Sergeant

The village say Officer Dennis Walker has served with the Algonquin Police Department for 16 years and played a significant role in the reduction of excessive truancy at Jacobs High School.

The Village of Algonquin recently promoted Officer Dennis Walker to the rank of Sergeant. 

Dennis Walker began his career with the Algonquin Police Department in March 1998. Since the beginning, he has excelled in opportunities given to him or created by his own initiatives.

“Sergeant Walker has always shown sound judgment and concern for the interests of Algonquin citizens. He is well respected by his peers and the community,” said Police Chief Russell Laine.  “He will continue this legacy and will serve as a welcome addition to the formal leadership team of the Algonquin Police Department. We wish him all the best as he begins a new chapter in his career.”

Internally, Sergeant Walker has served as an in-service instructor for the department in the areas of Electronic Control Device operations and Defensive Tactics for Officers. Sergeant Walker was instrumental in establishing the Tri-Village Peer Jury. He has served as a patrol officer, gang officer, bicycle patrol officer, investigator, and, for over eight years, has been serving as the School Resource Officer at Jacobs High School.

While serving as Resource Officer, Sergeant Walker has played a tremendous role in the significant decrease, nearly 40 percent, in excessive truancy.  Additionally, Sergeant Walker initiated several programs at Jacobs High School to enhance the effectiveness of the School Resource Officer Program.
