Algonquin Man, 40, in Car Crash Died of Heart Failure

Thomas C. Nejmeh was involved in a car accident on Saturday in East Dundee, but police said he probably died of heart failure.

Thomas C. Nejmeh, 40, of the 1600 block of Hartley, Algonquin, died in a car crash on Saturday in East Dundee, but medical exams indicate he likely suffered heart failure right before the crash, the Daily Herald reports.

Nejmeh was driving north on Route 25 just north of Route 72 at 11:10 a.m. April 27, when his black Lincoln Zephyr veered off the road and entered the Dundee Township East Cemetery, the Herald reports. His car traveled northeastward until it collided with an unoccupied building in the 200 block of South Dundee Avenue, the story said.

A police officer found Nejmeh unconscious on the passenger side of the car with head injuries. The car air bag had not deployed, and Nejmeh wasn't wearing a seat belt. Nejmeh was pronounced dead at 12:04 p.m. at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, the Herald reports.
