Algonquin House Fire: Smoke Detector Alerted Owners

An Algonquin homeowner was alerted to a fire by the sound of his smoke detector Wednesday, fire officials said.

 

No one was injured in an Algonquin house fire on Cary-Algonquin Road on Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.

The owner of the house at 1430 Cary-Algonquin Road, located on the northeast side of Algonquin, said he was renovating the two-story home when a smoke detector sounded. He was able to exit the building safely.

Fire crews from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District arrived on the scene at about 12:30 p.m. Smoke and flames were billowing from the front of the house, and crews immediately began fighting the blaze from the outside, according to a press release issued by Battalion Chief John Greene.

"Fire crews initiated an aggressive exterior attack and then went to an interior attack once the flames were mostly extinguished," Greene said in the release.

Firefighters remained on the scene until after 3 p.m., investigating the cause fo the blaze and securing the home. Investigators on the scene determined the fire was electrical in nature, Greene said.

An estimate of the damage was not yet available. No civilian or fire department injuries were reported.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received assistance from Cary, Carpentersville, Fox River Grove and East Dundee fire departments.

 

The Algonquin Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District would like to remind residents that there is a greater than 50% chance of surviving a home fire when there are working smoke alarms present.
