Algonquin Home Damaged in Blaze

The blaze remains under investigation.

No one was injured in a fire that caused extensive damage to an Algonquin home Saturday evening. 

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department was called to a fire at 3307 First St. in Algonquin at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, according to a fire department press release.

The homeowner reportedly discovered the fire in an upstairs bedroom and notified dispatch, according to the release. Everyone within the home was able to get out safely.

There were no working smoke detectors in the house at the time of the blaze, according to the release. The resident in the home was remodeling and had removed the detectors while painting.

Firefighters first on scene found the upstairs bedroom fully engulfed in flames. The fire was put out by 5:44 p.m.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation and the exact amount of damage is not available but "is expected to be significant," according to the release.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received assistance from Carpentersville, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove and Cary.
