Fred M. Zimmerman, 89, of Cary; Served in WWII

Visitation for Fred M. Zimmerman is Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, from noon and concluding with a service at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2107 Three Oaks Rd., Cary.

Fred M. Zimmermann, age 89 of Cary, passed away Dec. 18, 2013, at Lexington of Lake Zurich.

Fred was born June 17, 1924, in Lily, Wis., the son of Martin and Emma Zimmermann.

Fred served in the U.S. Army in WWII and retired from the Army Reserves as Lieutenant Colonel.

He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in mechanical engineering and received a masters degree in business from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. 

He was charter member of the Northwest Alano Club in Tucson, Ariz., and also was a member of the National Corvair Club.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Ebert, whom he married Nov. 21, 2004, in Cary.

He also is survived by his four children: Terry (Connie) Shreve, Roxanne (Robert) Silhan, Lynn (Gary) Koopman and Adrienne (Dave) Graham; three grandchildren, Matthew Silhan, Amanda Willegal and Jeffrey (Beth) Koopman; and a great-grandson, Cameron Koopman.

Fred is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Zimmermann, three brothers and a sister.      

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, from noon and concluding with a service at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2107 Three Oaks Rd., Cary.

Burial is planned at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
