Northern Illinois Fire Museum Chili Cook-Off

The Northern Illinois Fire Museum and the Marengo Firefighters Association will be presenting the First Annual Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser to be held on March 24, 2013.

The Northern Illinois Fire Museum and the Marengo Firefighters Association will be presenting the First Annual Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser to be held on March 24, 2013.  The event starts at 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

The Cook-Off will be held at Donley’s Wild West Banquet Hall, 8512 South Union Road in Union, IL.  Admission is $ 5.00 per person/Children under
6 free.  Chili samples are included in the admission price.  Bowls of Chili may
be purchased for $ 2.00 per bowl. Cash bar will be open.

Competition is open to everyone. Fire Departments from Northern Illinois are being invited to compete.

At 1:00 PM, KEITH VAN HORNE from the 1985 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears will be appearing. A donation is requested for photos and autographs.

From 12:30 to 2:30 The Sinful Saints Dixieland Band will be entertaining the crowd.  The Band performs all over Northern  Illinois and participates in over 30 Community parades annually.

Antique Fire equipment will be on display. 

Raffles, prizes and surprises will occur during day.

Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The 1st place winner also receives the Traveling trophy and gives them “Bragging Rights” until next year’s NIFM Chili Cook-Off.

TheNorthern Illinois Fire Museum is dedicated to the preservation and education of the fire service.  The funds raised for the Museum are being used to secure a permanent home that will open to the public year around and educate children and adults on the importance of fire safety.  Currently the Museum is in a leased building on Route 23, 4 miles south of downtown Marengo. 
The Museum owns approximately 15 pieces of fire equipment: Hand pulled,
Horse drawn, Gas and Diesel fueled. Tours are available by appointment.  Call 815-568-8950 to schedule a tour.

The Marengo Fire Association uses the proceeds to purchase equipment, dress uniforms and community programs including scholarships for local students.
