Goddard School Excited for Gingrich Visit

Preschool owner's thoughts on Callista Gingrich's visit

Below is a blog entry from Lake in the Hills Goddard School Owner Michele Clark. Callista Gingrich, wife of republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, will be visiting the Goddard School Thursday morning.

My little Goddard School in Lake in the Hills has something big to be excited about. We will be hosting a very special visitor this week: Callista Gingrich.

Most moms and dads know Callista to be the wife of Presidential hopeful, Newt Gingrich. But the kids at our school know Mrs. Gingrich to be author of the adorable children's book titled "Sweet Land of Liberty."

It's fitting that Mrs. Gingrich's visit is happening on Thursday, March 15th. This coincides perfectly with our school's monthly curriculum theme "Learning Through Literature".

Callista's book does an excellent job through rhymes and illustrations teaching young children about many of the important points in American history.  It teaches how our country is special and that we are lucky to live in America.

So how did The Goddard School come upon this opportunity?

One of our former dads whose child graduated from our school works closely with the campaign. We were honored when he suggested our school to Callista as a special place to visit.

No doubt about it, Callista Gingrich's visit is a big deal for our school. But I hope everyone, kids especially, take away some great lessons.

Lessons that don't necessarily have anything to do with this crazy political campaign we are all living through. The lesson I hope my students will walk away with is that big or small, republican or democrat, young or old, we are all Americans and we live in a great country.

The other day, in preparation for Callista's visit, I asked our pre-Kindergarten class why our country is special.

Chase Whitmire replied, "Because we can go to school and play outside."

Rajan Patel answered, "Because in our country we can all talk to each other without getting in trouble."

I loved these answers.

Although these may seem like small things to you and me, isn't it great our children understand how special these small liberties are.
