McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department offers photography classes for beginner through advanced, including anyone who wants to delve into photography as a hobby or a career.
The following classes are available:
Aerial Photography: Aerial photography is a unique and artistic skill. Many of the earth’s most interesting patterns are only apparent from the air. This class will cover a variety of topics that include: the best aircraft for aerial photography, the best time of day to take photos, controlling vibration and motion blur, plus a discussion on equipment and lens use. Students will have an option to participate in a free flight from Poplar Grove Airport (weather permitting) after taking the class to help practice their new-found techniques. This course meets from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 in Room E217 and on Saturday, Oct. 19 at a time and location discussed at the first class. Cost is $160 per person. To register, use course ID: NPH S20 010.
Macro Photography: Macro (also called extreme close-up photography) will open your eyes to the world around us. Participants will explore methods and techniques used for stunning macro photography. The mix of color, pattern, and design all contribute to truly memorable images. We will also discuss equipment that helps to maximize macro photography, although any type of camera will do for this class. Bring your creativity, and be ready to have some fun. Class takes place from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in Room E119. Costs $89 per person. To register, use course ID: NPH S21 011.
Visual Poetry: Your personality has a direct impact on what you capture as a photographer. There are simple techniques to boost your creativity, improve your digital images and make lasting memories. This class will teach you how to be more effective using natural light, how to reduce and simplify, participate rather than critique, and capture a story. Give your photography the benefit of this insightful approach. Class meets from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13-27 in Room A226. Cost is $89 per person. To register, use course ID: NPH S22 011.
