Enliven Your Life with Stimulating Non-Credit Classes at MCC

McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department is offering several new exciting classes this fall that offer something for everyone.  

The following classes are available:

All About Etsy: Turn your passion into a business and open an Etsy shop to post and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, or craft supplies. The instructor will guide students on how to set up their online shop with photos, a profile, and a shop banner. In the first class, students will acquire an Etsy account and decide on a marketing plan. The second class will focus on setting up a shop. Bring photos on a flash drive and learn how to crop, color-correct, and add the photos to your site. Class takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24 through Oct. 1 in Room A361. Cost is $39 per person. Use course ID: NPC S06 010 to register.

Therapy Dogs: Think your dog has the potential to help support others, bring them happiness and make them smile? Therapy Dogs International, Inc. is a volunteer organization dedicated to the testing, regulation and registration of therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers for the purpose of visiting nursing homes, hospitals, and other institutions where therapy dogs are needed. Learn about the test and procedures to allow your dog to join their elite membership. Bring your dog to the second class meeting. This course meets from 9-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12-19 in Room A102. Cost is $45 per person. Use course ID: NAN S08 010 to register.

Holiday Silk Scarf & Painting: Create hand painted gifts for the holidays. Paint a silk scarf, silk wall art, or mini reusable silk gift bags—great for meaningful and eco-friendly gifts.  Students will have their choice of up to three silk projects, using abstract colors, nature themes, or other design of their choice. Silk items are washable once heat set. Class takes place from 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 through Nov. 23 in Room E105. Cost is $105 per person. Use course ID: NFA S66 011 to register.

Preventative Health Organic Living Seminar: Learn methods for weight loss, cooking in a safe and healthy environment, effective exercises, and more. This seminar features discussions on the following topics: organic farming, effects of supplements and herbal remedies, holistic therapies in a clinical setting, meditation and visualization, staying physically active, plus nutrition information.  Class takes place from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Room A117. Cost is $39 per person. Use course ID: NHE S88 010 to register. 

How to Make Money with Your Digital Photos: If you can take a photo, you can quickly and easily make money from it. All you need is your camera and a computer with an internet connection. Many people need images for their website and you can be the one who provides those photos. You’ll discover how to take photos people want, how to get those photos in front of thousands of potential buyers and how to generate the demand for more. You don’t need exotic, high priced equipment for this. Class meets from 6-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11 from in Room C128, Cost is $89 per person. Use course ID: NPH S14 012 to register.
