Marines Collecting Toys for Tots

There are 17 drop-off locations in Algonquin.

This year, on Veterans Day, three local Marines staked out the Algonquin Colonial Cafe to collect toys for less-fortunate area children.

Retired Commandant Marty Smith III, also known as "Snappy," Cpl. Sean Canaday and veteran Cpl. Anna Sourile greeted diners as part of the Marines' effort to bolster the Toys for Tots collection.

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted
