LITH Dog Daycare Offers Fireworks Class to Help Noise-Phobic Canines

Class for Dogs Scared of Thunderstorms and Fireworks. Proceeds will be donated to the Border Collie Rescue.

As a doggy daycare and hotel owner, I support the statement that every dog is unique.

No two dogs are completely alike once you get to know them and witness their funny quirks, their interaction style and even their sleeping noises. Yet there are still topics that lump us dog owners into subgroups when dealing with some challenging categories. For example, some of our dogs are scared of vacuum cleaners while others enjoy chasing the vacuum cord.

Two such categories some of our buddies struggle with are loud noises (fireworks) and thunderstorms.  With July 4th around the corner and thunderstorms visiting us weekly, we wanted to offer some support to our community canines.

This class might be for you if your dog cowers in terror at the sound of thunder or fireworks.

Noise phobias like the fear of thunder and fireworks are intense fears of the strong noises associated with these events.

Ranging from mild unease to outright terror, noise phobias can drive dogs to destruction and self-endangerment as they try to escape from the source of their fear. Easy to develop and difficult to overcome, noise-phobic dogs can present a serious challenge for their guardians. But there are steps that owners can take to manage the problem and tremendously increase their dog’s quality of life during these unavoidable events.

Come and learn how to help your dog at a one-hour class at starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The class is $10 and proceeds will be donated to Border Collie Rescue. If you prefer an item donation over cash, you may instead donate dog blankets, bedding, towels or even crates.

The class is for owners only so you will not be able to bring your dog with you, but you can bring all of your questions!

While you are here reading this article, why not take the time to enjoy some of the attached pictures of some of our daycare and boarding dogs enjoying some calm moments together.

Interestingly enough, it is storming outside as I type this blog. We are hoping this class will help some of you to not dread this weather quite so much.
