With Only Seconds Left

Coverage on the Chicago Blackhawks first game of the 2011-2012 season.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 7, 2011 - The Chicago Blackhawks were hoping for the start of a good season as they began their season playing the Dallas Stars under the American Airlines Center roof.

Within the first five minutes of the game the Blackhawks received an advantage when Stars defenseman Mark Fistric was given a two-minute penalty for slashing.

Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford made 13 saves in the first period, but with a scoreless period it was anyone’s game with 40 minutes left to play.

In the first minutes of the second period Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski made the first goal of the game making the score 0-1 Stars.

Stars defenseman Sheldon Souray spent two-minutes in the penalty box after the end of a fight with Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp near the Stars goal area.

With only four minutes left in the second period Stars forward Jamie Benn made a short hand goal into the Blackhawks net, the second period ended with a score of 0-2 Stars.

The Blackhawks received their first penalty of the season when their defenseman Duncan Keith received a two-minute penalty for holding.

With only minutes left on the clock it was looking like the Blackhawks would have a scoreless game, but in the last 13 seconds of the game Blackhawks defenseman Nick Leddy made the final attempt to score.

Leddy lined up his shot and the puck went straight into the Stars net and the Blackhawks were now on the board in the last period of the game.

The Blackhawks first game of the 2011-2012 season ended with a score of 1-2.
