Does Your Elder Need a Little Home Care Assistance?

Recognizing the signs that indicate home care assistance could be beneficial for your loved and keep them safe is a loving act. 

The questions and your answers will help focus in on the necessary areas to pay attention.

·         SAFETY

·         Can they use the stove safely?

·         Have they fallen in the past year?

·         Are they safe using the bath/shower unattended?

·        Concerned with use/frequency of bathroom at night unattended?

·         Are the stairs a safety issue?

·         Are doors including the garage, closed and locked?

 

NUTRITION                                                                                        

·         Are they able to go grocery shopping?

·         Have you noticed a change in their weight?

·         Are they eating regularly balanced meals or

·         Eating convenience foods? (high sodium frozen meals /canned soups)  and low nutritional value snacks?

·         Is there a fresh or expired food in the refrigerator?

 

MEDICAL

·         Diagnosed with a disease, illness or other medical condition?

·         Have they lost a spouse within the past 2 years?

·         Are medications being managed properly?

  •        Correct medication
  •        Correct dosage
  •        Correct frequency

·         Are all prescriptions getting refilled on time?

·         Are they keeping regular appointments with their doctors?

 

PERSONAL HYGIENE:

·         Do they or the household have an odor?

·         Does it appear they are bathing and brushing their teeth regularly?

·         How does their overall appearance compare to prior years?

·         Is laundry: clothing, bed linens and towels clean?

·         Can they get to the toilet when needed? Been any accidents?

·         Toileting assistance needed ? wiping, getting pants back up or rising safely balanced?

  A professional and caring home services worker may be needed to protect the health, safety, comfort and happiness of your elder.
