The children's journey begins with a Metra express train ride to the Crystal Lake Pingree Train Station.

"The express train at 11:40 a.m. will be met by the McHenry County Fire Department members, and gifts will be given to the children on the train by off duty firefighters," Pollnow said in the release.

The express train will return to Rosemont at 12:10 p.m.

The entire express train ride back to Rosemont will have firefighters from various fire departments at every train station and train crossings waving and cheering en route to the final destination the North Pole.

"The North Pole is a celebration for the entire families and the children with life threatening illnesses to have a day for the entire family to meet Santa and to forget about the troubles associated with a sick child for at least one day," Pollnow said.
