Sheriff’s Office Receives 100 Teddy Bears for Shop with a Cop Program

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office received a donation of 100 teddy bears this past week from Phyllis Close of Bear Hugs of Chicagoland.

The bears donated by Phyllis will be given to the children participating in our Shop with a Cop Program, which will be held on Dec. 8, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release.

“Bear Hugs of Chicagoland” is a non-profit organization chartered under the International Good Bears of the World. “Bear Hugs” gives teddy bears to Police and Fire Departments and Child Abuse Centers in the counties of McHenry, DuPage, Cook, and Kane.

Over 150 places have received teddy bears. Everyone who needs a hug – the children, the elderly, the ill and the needy have received bears.

The bears are provided to Phyllis through donations. All contributions are used for the purchase of teddy bears – there are no administrative costs.

Phyllis has been operating her “bear den” for over 16 years and has donated over 18,000 teddy bears during this time. She has partnered with the Shop with a Cop program for many years with her donations of teddy bears for the children.
