Food Fight for Local Families

WE'RE HAVING A FOOD FIGHT! Well, actually, it’s not so much an “Animal House” kind of food fight. Rather, this is more of a “fight” to collect food on behalf of homeless students and their families that are a part of District 300 Schools. On Monday, November 14 from 6:00-8:00 PM, Lifeline Christian Church and Brunswick Zone XL in Algonquin are hosting an event to collect needed food items that will be used in a special “More Than A Meal” event on Thanksgiving Day for registered homeless families in the district.

As a new church that only began meeting in October 2010, this is the second year Lifeline will host the Thanksgiving event at Brunswick Zone XL. And while families from Lifeline will be doing the cooking and preparing the food to serve, we are depending on the community at large to help collect the basic food ingredients, including the five 20 pound frozen turkeys it will take to feed the families a full-blown, traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings.

A raffle ticket will be given out for every food item brought in on Monday to the “Food Fight”. Then throughout the two hour event, Brunswick Zone will hold drawings and give away a variety of prizes. In addition, the first 5 people to bring in a frozen 20 pound turkey will each receive Brunswick’s “Family Funtastic Package” which includes 2 FREE hours of bowling for up to 6 people, and a pitcher of soda. Game cards worth $15 of gaming can also be purchased for just $10 during “Food Fight” night, with a portion of the proceeds being donated by Brunswick to the Thanksgiving event.

With a little community participation by everyone, together we can make a large impact and share hope this Thanksgiving with some local families in need. Any money or food collected above and beyond the need will be given to the families and/or the District 300 Homeless Committee Fund.
