ALS Tag Days

Each May, the ALS Les Turner Foundation honors ALS Awareness Month with a series of Tag Day drives.  These locally organized fundraising drives can be found at intersections, shopping malls, train stations and other places around the community.  This grassroots event is an example of how dedication, ingenuity and and volunteer manpower can have an impact many times beyond the orignial investment.  The genius of Tag Days is that it requires little more than a yellow vest, a can for donations, and two hours or more from a willing volunteer.  It may not seem like much, but it adds up.

ALS—often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease or motor neuron disease (MND)—is a progressive, degenerative disease affecting motor neurons. Motor neurons are specialized nerve cells that carry impulses from the brain to the muscles by way of the brainstem and the spinal cord. The muscles then move in response to these impulses.
