2011 Mental Health Fair

Do you think that you or someone you love may be suffering from a mental health disorder?

Then you won’t want to miss the First Annual McHenry County Mental Health Services Expo, 12 – 3 p.m., Sunday, October 9, at the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park/Dole Mansion, 401 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake. This free event is sponsored by the Crystal Lake Jaycees. The purpose of the expo is to raise awareness about the mental health services that are available in the McHenry County area. Participants will be able to ask questions and receive free information from vendors.

Non-profit agencies that will be attending include:

  • McHenry County Crisis Program
  • Thresholds
  • Pioneer Center for Human Services
  • McHenry County Mental Health Board
  • Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association
  • Centegra Behavioral Health Systems
  • Family Service Community Mental Health Center
  • Family Alliance
  • Consumer Credit Counseling Center of McHenry County
  • McHenry County Board of Health and Human Services

The event coincides with World Mental Health Day, which is held annually on October 10 to bring attention about mental health issues worldwide. According to The Ohio State University Medical Center, more than 20 million American adults will suffer from a depressive illness each year.

“Unfortunately there is still negative stigma attached to mental health disorders,” says Steve Repsys of the Crystal Lake Jaycees. “It’s easier to tell someone that you suffer from cancer than a mental health disorder. The Jaycees are proud to be holding this event to spread the word that there is no shame if you suffer from a mental health disorder.”
