Algonquin will celebrate “The 80’s
Were Awesome!” at its 54th Annual Founders’ Days Parade on Saturday
July 26th, 2014. The 11:00 a.m. Kick Off will begin at the corner of
Algonquin and Eastgate Roads then continue West on Route 62, turning South on
Main Street Route 31, then ending around Railroad Street before Huntington. The
parade route will be the same as in past years. At the end of the parade, floats can either continue South on Route 31
or turn left on Madison Street. Alan Kirk and his Son Aaron, long running
Co-Chairs of the parade, report a large number of entries applying for entry this
year. “We have more bands and entertainment acts then we have had in a long
time, it is very exciting. But we still have room for more “80’s Were Awesome”
Themed entries” said Aaron Kirk. If you are interested in participating,
becoming a sponsor, or volunteering to help out with the parade you can contact
Alan & Aaron Kirk at 847-815-4895 for an application. Or you can visit the
Festival website at www.algonquinfoundersdays.com and click on the Registration Materials
tab.
The festival itself will kick off on
Thursday July 24th and end Sunday night July 27th with a
huge fireworks show at Riverfront Park. Festival goers should note the new
location for the Festival at Algonquin Lakes Park on the West side of town. The
park is located South of Algonquin Road and West of Route 25 behind the
Algonquin Lakes School. Main stage bands will include some top notch
entertainment! Festival attendees will also be treated to a Carnival, Kids Games,
Petting Zoo, Food Vendors, Market & Bazaar, Beer Tent, Bags Tournament, Bake
Off, Bike Decorating Contest, Dog & Cat Show, Cardboard Boat Regatta,
Founders’ Run, Pancake Breakfast, Standup Paddle Board Challenge, and more. For
