An early morning blaze at a Lake in the Hills apartment complex has left a handful of residents without homes today.

Fire officials responded to the Elliot Apartments, 303 Pyott Road, at 5:57 a.m. Friday where they helped residents evacuate the building,  said Battalion Chief John Knebl of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department.



McHenry County Sheriff’s Office arrested Leanne Springer, 35, of 321 Harold St., Crystal Lake, March 2 and charged her with felony forgery and unlawful financial exploitation of an elderly person.

Police say Springer forged the name of her elder care client on one of the 88-year-old woman’s personal checks made out to Springer in the amount of $500.

Craig Pfannkuche, a volunteer researcher with the McHenry County Historical Society, recently spoke to the Huntley Senior Citizens Club on those salacious subjects, telling of the county’s most lawless era, the 1920s and early 1930s.  



Fifteen people were arrested after McHenry County Sheriff's Deputies were called to a party in unincorporated McHenry March 6.

According to the sherrif's office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 12:43 a.m. March 6 to the 2700 block of Old Oak Dr. in unincorporated McHenry after receiving a loud party complaint. During the investigation, deputies learned that 40 people had gathered for an underage drinking party.



“Cold, calculated and pre-meditated,” is how prosecutors described Marni Yang’s actions in the alleged murder of 42-year-old Deerfield resident Rhoni Reuter during opening statements in court Friday.

Reuter was the longtime girlfriend of former Bears player Shaun Gayle and at the time of the shooting in 2007 was six months pregnant with his child. After months of investigations, police linked Yang to the crime and charged her with first-degree murder and intentional homicide of an unborn child.
