Thousands Without Power in Northern Illinois Following Fast-Moving Storm

A fast-moving storm ripped through the area Wednesday night knocking out power throughout northern Illinois. 

A ComEd outage map showed 1,898 customers were in the dark as of 11 p.m. Wednesday near Bolz Road and Route 25 in Barrington Hills, which is in the area of the Waterford of Algonquin subdivsion. In addition, 863 were without power in neighborhoods near Main Beach Park in Crystal Lake. 

Also hit hard with outages was an area west of Galligan Road and north of Freeman Road in Gilberts with 777 ComEd customers without power as of 11 p.m., according to the outage map. 

There were additional outages scattered throughout the area, including Lake in the Hills, Crystal Lake, Huntley and Algonquin, as well as much of northern Illinois, according to the outage map. Over 7,000 were without power in Rockford as of 11 p.m. 

Closer to home, residents reported outages in the Manchester Lakes subdivision and the Cedarwoods subdivision in Algonquin, according to residents responding on the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Patch Facebook page Wednesday night. 

It was unclear as of late Wednesday when power would be restored but the ComEd power outage website should provide updates on crew status, the probable cause of the outage and estimated restoration time. ComEd's website also has information on how to report an outage. 

Other reports Wednesday included several inches of standing water and then mud along Algonquin Road near the U.S. Post Office, 801 West Algonquin Road in Algonquin. is currently underway in that area.
