Teens Arrested for Burglaries to Vehicles in LITH

The teens told police they were also involved in motor vehicle thefts in Crystal Lake.

Two area teens were taken into custody early Monday morning for reportedly stealing from multiple vehicles in Lake in the Hills and Crystal Lake.

A officer patrolling the neighborhood near the 1100 block of Halfmoon Court shortly after midnight Monday saw the teens – a 16-year-old Crystal Lake boy and a 15-year-old Woodstock boy – entering an unlocked car, said Sgt. Eric Decker of the Lake in the Hills Police Department.

“Upon questioning them, we learned that they indeed committed burglaries in the area as well as in Crystal Lake,” Decker said.

Both boys were arrested for the Monday morning burglaries. The 15-year-old Woodstock boy was taken to the juvenile justice center. The Crystal Lake boy was released to his parents.

LITH Police are investigating if the boys are connected to any other LITH vehicle burglaries.

The majority of thefts from vehicles occur to unlocked vehicles, Decker said.

“They are sporadic,” Decker said. “A lot of people are leaving electronics or their GPS lit in their window. The best deterrent is to bring your electronics inside with you and to lock your doors.”
