Patch Flash: National Day of Johns Nabs Eight on Prostitution Charges

An Oswego man was one of eight men arrested on prostitution-related activities by Aurora police as part of a nationwide Columbus Day weekend law enforcement initiative. All of the arrests were "street level" and took place in locations where Aurora Police have received complaints of prostitution-related activities.

At a time when many government programs are fighting for survival, there's one place the money is still flowing for now: the Great Lakes. In the past two years, Congress has pumped $775 million into the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, a plan to deal with problems scientists say could turn the world's largest freshwater system into an ecological wasteland: industrial pollution, invasive species, an unraveling food web, watersheds fouled by massive algae blooms, disappearing wildlife habitat. President Barack Obama requested an additional $350 million in his 2012 budget, but nothing is certain with lawmakers deeply divided over spending.

One month ago two friends were beginning their senior year at Stagg High School. Another had just graduated and was taking community college classes. The fourth was going to Oak Lawn Community High School. sheriff's office says the length of their stay at Cermak will be determined solely by hospital staff. Once they are deemed fit to be integrated into the general population, they will be housed in the jail's maximum security division.
