Patch Flash: Man Tries to Steal Copper Wire from Utility Pole, Gets Electrocuted
Chicagoland news to talk about: Joliet man pretends to be deaf during arrest.
Police say a man who was fatally electrocuted Wednesday night likely died during a failed attempt to steal copper wire from a utility pole in suburban Lockport. An alarm that had been installed after a rash of recent copper thefts in the area notified police officers, but crews could not immediately approach the man, who fell about 20 feet to the ground and appeared to be dead on the scene, because the ground around him was "electrified.” Polcie said the man was unidentified and would be difficult to identify due to the severity of the burns.
A "person of interest" has been identified and is reportedly in police custody in the Thursday killing of a 14-year-old southwest suburban girl. Kelli O'Laughlin, a freshman at Lyons Township High School, was found by her mother in their home in the 6300 block of Keokuk Road in Indian Head Park. She was declared dead shortly thereafter at a hospital nearby. He apparently killed her after she thwarted a burglary.
Terrance Godfrey, of Joliet, was charged with obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest following a traffic stop in New Lenox Township.

Is Halloween becoming obsolete with politically correct fall fests and concerns about child obesity? Ten costumed residents showed up to protest the shortening of trick-or-treat hours in Oak Lawn. Even though the issue wasn’t on the village board’s agenda, the mayor allowed residents to speak their piece during the public comments portion of the meeting. Dan Lupesco, a self-described Halloween nut, was moved to start a “Save Halloween in Oak Lawn” Facebook group after learning of a village trustee’s proposal to shave an hour off the trick-or-treat curfew.
