Osama bin Laden is Dead; How Did You Find Out?

It has been reported that Twitter broke the news before President Obama gave his TV announcement.

Typically with any major historical moment people will make a mental note of where they were when they heard the news so in a few years they can say exactly what they were doing at the time.

But with the umpteen ways you can get your news today, I think it is more interesting to make a mental note of how you heard the news.

It has been reported that Twitter actually first broke the news that al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was dead, even before President Obama announced it on TV at 9:45 p.m.

Twitter says that it reached more 4,000 tweets per second at the beginning and end of President Obama’s speech last night.

I was on an airplane coming back from a long weekend in Las Vegas when I got the news that the world's most wanted terrorist was dead. We had just landed at O’Hare and it was 11:50 p.m. We had taken off from Vegas at 6:27 p.m. Vegas time, so the news was announced midair without Internet access.

As soon as the plane had landed, like clockwork, I powered up my iPhone to see what awaited me after being away from my email for four days. There I saw the email from my editor saying that bin Laden was dead.

I relayed the news to my boyfriend, a few people overheard me, and about a minute later the rest of the plane was talking about bin Laden’s death. I think there were a few cheers and claps.

So now I would like to know, how did you find out about Bin Laden’s death? Was it on Facebook or Twitter? A website? Or TV?
