Opening Soon! New Businesses Coming to the Area

Maurices will open at Algonquin Commons this week and La Trattoria Marianos and Village Vintner Winery, both to be located in Algonquin, are slated to open in coming weeks.

From a winery/microbrewery to an antiques shop downtown to a family-owned Italian restaurant, several new businesses soon will call Algonquin home.

Next week, Maurices, a national retail clothing shop, will move in at Algonquin Commons. Maurices will move from its location at 714 S. Randall Road in Algonquin to the 1936 S. Randall Road location at the Commons. Maurices is slated to open May 10 at the Commons.

The Village Vintner Winery has plans of opening a microbrewery and winery at 2380 Esplande Drive, Algonquin, in the coming weeks, a Village Vintner co-owner told Patch. The location is just south of Algonquin Commons. The winery closed the doors to its Carpentersville location in December. According to the Village Vintner Winery website, the business will expand with a microbrewery and restaurant. Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Patch will update with more information on this business and its opening as it becomes available.

La Trattoria Marianos, formerly located at Ackman and Lakewood roads in Lake in the Hills, will reopen at 1748 S. Randall Road in the Algonquin Commons in coming weeks. The Algonquin Commons website listed a May 15 opening for the restaurant, but co-owner Theresa Scandurra said the restaurant likely would open the following week. The family-owned Italian restaurant is will offer a "simple rustic menu," according to the Algonquin Commons website. "We believe in fresh, quality ingredients. Inspired by original family recipes, our dishes are made from scratch, with no chemicals or preservatives," according to the website.

An opening for Hobby Lobby in the Esplanade of Algonquin development has been moved back before, with the builder now shooting for a July opening. "If he can’t make that deadline they will open in October," said Algonquin Community Development Director Russell Farnum. The national chain of arts and crafts supplies will be located in a new, standalone building of about 55,000 square feet, said Charles Smith, vice president of areté Knight, the Tinley Park architectural firm hired to design the building.

Algonquin Antiques & Uniques will open at 303 S. Main St., downtown Algonquin. The antiques' store is slated to open in the coming weeks, said Jeremy Sturgis of Algonquin Antiques & Uniques. The store will offer antiques and vintage items, ranging from pre-war windup toys to art deco furniture. “We also carry advertising pieces, artwork, glassware, crystal, marbles, knives and Civil War items,” Sturgis said.
